F&F Europe BV awarded highest certification
On 8th February 2006 F&F Europe BV was awarded four certifications in the field of food safety and quality assurance. The organisation, which is a big player in the business-to-business market, has already held ISO and HACCP certifications for some time. Following a successful audit, both certifications were renewed for a period of three years on 8th February. Since retail is another important market for F&F Europe BV, the organisation also elected to apply for certifications conforming the British BRC standard and the German/French IFS standard. On 8th February, the international DNV auditor reported that F&F Europe BV had met the strict standards of the IFS standard ‘Higher Level’ and the BRC-standard ‘A-grade’. With these certifications F&F Europe BV, one of the very few in its sector, has achieved the highest attainable certifications in the field of food safety and quality assurance.

What the certifications mean
The four international standards are set for food safety and the quality of the organisation. The fact that F&F Europe BV has met all the standards, proves that it is a quality orientated organisation that aims to make a safe, quality product.
ISO 9001 is a standard aimed at management systems. ISO particularly examines whether an organisation follows the correct processes.
The HACCP standard mainly concentrates on food safety. Organisations which meet the HACCP standard have done everything to prevent unsafe elements from entering their product. Examples are glass, heavy metals, crop protection products, etc.
The BRC standard is very important in the British retail sector. This standard contains parts of ISO and HACCP and furthermore it sets extra requirements for hygiene and civil engineering aspects. Companies that want to supply the large supermarket chains in the UK must conform to this standard. The BRC standard has several levels; F&F Europe BV meets the most stringent requirements and has, therefore, received the A-grade certification.
The IFS standard is the German/French equivalent of the British BRC standard. This standard also has several levels and here again, F&F Europe BV achieved the highest possible score, which was awarded with a Higher Level certification.

New opportunities
Achieving IFS and BRC certification opens new doors for F&F Europe BV. Both certifications will enable the organisation to start supplying British, French and German supermarket chains on a larger scale. In anticipation of this development new consumer packaging is currently being developed which may well be available in the larger British, German and French supermarkets in the near future.

DNV
The certifications have been issued by one of the largest international certification organisations: Det Norske Veritas, better known as DNV. It has already issued over 50,000 certifications in the fields of quality, environment, safety and food safety and health and safety assurance. The audits were carried out by experienced auditors who specialise in the food sector.
